Croeso i Dosbarth Gwyrdd!

Welcome to Dosbarth Gwyrdd!

Dosbarth Gwyrdd is our mixed Year One and Year Two class.

Our teacher this year is Mrs A Wall (supply whilst Mrs Knight is AHT) and we are supported by Mrs Preece.

We use the Seesaw app to keep you upto date with your child's learning - please email the office for more information - crmpa@caerphilly.gov.uk

Snack Time:

Children can bring in a water bottle to keep in class to drink throughout the day, please ensure only plain water is in the bottles and they are labelled with the child's name (they can be refilled as needed).

The children can also bring in a fruit or vegetable snack, please also label this with their name to save confusion. They will also be offered milk to drink.

PLEASE, PLEASE help us by marking ALL your children’s clothes and personal items using a permanent marker (biro washes away). School will hold no responsibility for lost, unnamed clothing.

We also have a few rules regarding the suitability of certain items of “clothing” because they are a potential safety hazard.

In PE jewellery is a particular source of danger and must be removed before children can take part in the lessons.

Personal Independence:

In school all children are encouraged to become independent in their learning. We encourage children to take off and put on jumpers, coats, socks, shoes on their own. To support your child's independence we’d ask you to please practice these personal skills at home.

If you have any questions or would like any more information on how to help your child at home please do not hesitate to come and talk to us. Alternatively there will be an open evening in the near future, where we will have information and resources available for you to look at.

Thank you

Numeracy

Please help your child to correctly form numbers. Some of the things we will be covering is: number recognition and formation as well as addition, subtraction, simple multiplication and division, coins up to £1, (yr 1) and £10 (yr 2) sharing amounts, measuring using things such as blocks, cubes and rulers, We will also be singing lots of number rhymes and watching numeracy videos

The children use Sumdog to support their maths skills and this can be accessed at home too. Log-in details will be sent home at the beginning of term.

Literacy

Please help your child to learn upper and lower case letters. Also encourage correct letter formation and help them to learn keywords. We use Letters and Sounds as a phonics scheme., supplemented by the Twinkl resources.

We also encourage you to read books to your child as much as possible at home and listen to your child read books that are sent home and return to school the next day.

The children use a variety of decodable and levelled reading books in school. We are looking at using the Twinkl Go resources for home reading too.
