Safeguarding

At CHL the safety of our pupils is of paramount importance to us. All staff receive regular 'Safeguarding Training' by the Local Authorities Safeguarding Officers and receive update training as and when required. Furthermore, several members of staff receive a higher level of training on key Safeguarding issues.

If anyone has any concerns about children in our school, they should either raise these with a member of staff (who will pass it on to the school's Designated Safeguarding Officer (Mrs Sharon Knight) or contact Children's Services themselves on (0808) 100 1727. If anyone has concerns about any young person, they can also contact this number for further advice and guidance on what to do.

Termly Safeguarding assemblies for children in Years 1-6

During a whole school assembly each half term, we will be talking to the children about how to keep themselves safe. We will help the children understand that it is their right to be happy and safe and to encourage the understanding that any problem or worry that they may have is legitimate, and to share their worries – big or small – with their trusted adult; at home, at school, or with ChildLine.

The assemblies will be led by Mrs Knight or Ms Philpotts (H&WB Lead) l and the content delivered in a sensitive and age appropriate way.

During the assembly will we aim to give children:

  • An understanding of different forms of abuse, including bullying, and an ability to recognise the signs of harm or abuse

  • Knowledge of how to protect themselves from all forms of abuse

  • An awareness of how to get help and sources of help, including ChildLine.
